honestly, i'm not sure. i learned about what an exorcist is from matoba seiji. but it didn't sound too different from what a cultivator is either. and now i learn of sorcerers? do we all just do the same thing?

Perhaps not exactly the same, but similar enough to overlap.
You said "we" so does that make you a cultivator then?

i am a cultivator, yes. i cultivate spiritual energy from the dantian in order to perform what you'd call magic. back home, cultivators are responsible for handling the yao, demons, ghosts, and monsters who appear on their sect's lands. so, dealing with ghosts, spirits, and the undead is not unfamiliar to me.

Have you ever dealt with something like this place?

a different realm? no. there are only the three realms where i come from — the heavens, the earthly realm, and the underworld. never heard of anything like this.

It has conceptual similarities to an advanced technique in my world, but the scope and magnitude of it are far beyond anything I've encountered or even would previously have considered possible.

Human sorcerers and powerful cursed spirits. I'm not capable of it myself.

I think the house itself is a curse, or something like one. Yes.

Curse, cursed spirit, these are interchangeable terms. In short it describes a malevolent being spawned by the accumulation of cursed energy produced by humanity's negative emotions.

got it. sounds a bit like yao or monsters where i'm from. living or dead non-humans. sometimes made in reaction to humans, sometimes not.

okay. so what would you do to deal with a curse? kill it?

The ones unrelated to humans, where do they come from?

Essentially, yes. Curses have to be destroyed using cursed energy as well. An ordinary physical attack won't damage it. I don't know for certain but an attack using spiritual power from another similar discipline, such as yours, might also be effective.

some stem from humans but in differing ways. like human belief creating a creature that is not human, like a yao or monster, and thus giving it life. the ones that don't come from humans at all usually come in reaction to the earth itself. animals or plants or just nature in general.

that's interesting. i'd love to test that somehow. i'm trying to think of situations where i don't use spiritual power against something but by nature of being a cultivator, all of my actions are imbued with my spiritual power.
